Environmental Science Class – Seed Dispersal Challenge

[meta_gallery_slider]

Seed dispersal challenge: students designed and constructed seed carriers from various materials to see which prototype carried the “seed” (wooden bead) farthest away from the “parent plant” (playground tower). Seeds were modeled after nature’s designs of helicopter propellers like maple tree seeds or parachutes like dandelion and milkweed seeds.

Grades 3rd -7th were informal challenges. 8th grade completed data sheets and took their prototypes on their field trip to TreeRunners in GR. After conducting their experiments, students redesigned their seed carriers based on what worked and what did not. Retesting took place on NBCA campus.
